Dr. Hites is a Veterinarian at SportsVet Animal Medical Center and the owner of The Whole Pet, which provides individualized, integrative medicine for small animals. Dr. Hites has worked at hospitals in the Chicagoland area, southern New Mexico, and throughout central Illinois. Since elementary school, her only career desire was to be a veterinarian.
After graduating as valedictorian from Grayslake High School, she attended the University of Illinois where she completed her undergraduate degree in Agricultural Science and was a member of the University of Illinois Women's Club Volleyball team. Dr. Hites graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992 and practiced traditional medicine, working with small animals, pocket pets, birds, and reptiles. Realizing that she had a passion for aging pets as well as those with chronic illnesses, she studied animal chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition, and herbal medicine. By using both traditional and alternative modalities, Dr. Hites has extended the quality of life for animals and their owners, helped agility dogs win blue ribbons, and been the veterinarian of choice for celebrities. Pets at home with Dr. Hites are Jasper, a 10-year-old male tabby cat that is an excellent string chaser and sun bather, and Gilley, a 9-year-old male beagle that specializes in calming special needs children and holding down the recliner. When not at the hospital, Dr. Hites enjoys coaching and playing volleyball, reading, and Sudoku. Dr. Hites is devoted to partnering with clients to help their animal companions live better quality lives.
